This board is indeed a wonderful idea.
I recently purchased my first horse, and her filly. My mare was headed for auction the day after I got the call about her being for sale.
I went to see her and had to prevent her, her filly and potential unborn foal (yes thats right, although she is nursing a 2 month old, she may be in foal as well ) from going to auction.
I really wish I would have had the resources prior to my purchases however it definately would not have changed my mind on them.
My husband and I live on a 160 acre "hobby farm" that consists of 18 meat rabbits that I could not bear to see them killed when I saw the classified ad so we purchased all of them, 4 dogs ( 1 older and deaf Am.thingyer spaniel, 1 8 year old Border Collie, a 6 year old Rottie/boxer mix and a Tibetan Mastiff youngster) 2 of our dogs are rescues as well.
We do hope to add another horse to our "furry family" in the near future. We are hoping to do light pleasure riding on our property with our horses, and it will be several years until our filly or potential other foal will get us there. Our mare is not trained to ride ( sorry the term broke slightly bothers me ) but we are hopeful to have her started after she is done will all her weaning.
I really wish I would have seen Boomer from Heaven Can Wait while he was available, he is EXACTLY the sort of horse we are looking to add. A gentle giant Gelding.
I'll be keeping an eye out for another like him ;D
