Hello
My name is Tonya and I live in Alberta. I am married with grown kids and spend my time caring for my 3 Chihuahuas, 2 QH's, 2 mini mares and my mini donkey.
I do not have a horse rescue but would like to help out in any way I can.
I would love to help promote adoptions and donations and help with this board (see Volunteer's needed posting). My interests also lie in the area of trying to stop the back yard breeders and the breeders that breed 10 to 50 foals a year and then send the majority of them to auction and then re breed 10 to 50 mares again for the following year. It sickens me to see this and I would do anything to help prevent some of these poor souls going for meat.
I personally have an absolute NO BREED policy for all of my animals. I do have a pregnant mini mare that was in foal when I agreed to take her out of a bad situation. This poor little mare should have never been bred. She foaled in July and lost her foal within a few hours due to birth defects but the brilliant person that owned her decided to breed her again anyway. She is also at high risk just due to her size, she is only 28.5" tall.
All of my male animals are fixed or gelded but I get so tired of people when I tell them I have 3 Chihuahua's ask if I am a breeder or ask if they are fixed because they want to breed to them.
THEY ARE MY PETS NOT MY MONEY MAKERS. I also own a young gelding with very good breeding and have been scolded by several people for gelding him. I bought him for me because I liked his breeding and looks not so I could use him to add to the already bursting horse population. (sorry me for the vent - lol)
Nice to meet you all and KUDOS to you for trying to help the horses that people have cast aside.
